NRT Day - 2022


In accordance with the announcement made by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the inaugural annual event, "World Tamil Diaspora Day" organized by the Commissionerate of Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non Resident Tamils Department, took place on January 12, 2022. The event centered around the theme "Uniting with Tamils" and was rescheduled from its original date due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 and Omicron pandemic.

As per the announcement of Hon’ble Chief Minister, January 12th of every year is being celebrated as the “World Tamil Diaspora Day”. This is to celebrate the contribution of the Tamil Diaspora, to integrate the Tamils living in abroad and also to encourage them. It also aims to showcase the Tamil Heritage, art, literature and Culture and to bring it to the next generation.

During the year 2022, due to covid pandemic, the celebration was organized on January 12th in a hybrid mode with the theme “ThamizhalInaivom”.

  8. Honorable Members of Parliament Mr. Trichy Siva, Mr. M. M. Abdullah, Mrs. Tamilachi Thangapandian participated as special guests through video.
